71 rescued while being trafficked to Malaysia

Law enforcers detained 15 more passengers and two traffickers

Police rescued 71 passengers, who were being trafficked to Malaysia, from Cox’s Bazar and the Bay of Bengal in the early hours of yesterday. Police also detained two traffickers and seized a trawler.

Shahidul Islam, in-charge of the coast guard station at Cox’s Bazar, said they acted on a tip-off where they conducted a drive on the Sonadia Channel in the Bay of Bengal and rescued 56 passengers from a trawler.

Later, law enforcers detained 15 more passengers and two traffickers, from a hotel in the Kolatoli area.
