6 bodies recovered as trawler sinks in Bhola

At least six people including four children were killed and 15-20 others remained missing as a trawler carrying around 65 passengers capsized in Meghna river at Manpura in Bhola on Thursday morning.

Locals said the trawler sank around 11:45am. However, the reasons behind the capsize could not be known immediately.

Six bodies were recovered so far, the officer-in-charge of the Manpura police station, Hanif Shikdar, told Prothom Alo till 2pm.

“Of them, four are children and two women. Some 15-20 passengers who swam ashore were taken to the Manpura upazila health complex,” said the police officer.

The deceased women are identified as Ayesha, 65, and Jesmine, 22 while the deceased children are Rupa, Rani, Tanju and Tahmina — all are under three years of age, locals said.

Police and locals said the trawler was going to Ramnewaj from Kalatalichar of Manpura union.

The police officer said members of police and coast guard were carrying out drive for searching for the missing passengers.
