2 Bangladeshis shot dead in Libya

Two Bangladeshi workers have been killed and two others injured in trouble-torn Libya during a gunfight between two rival militia groups.

A Bangladesh Foreign Ministry statement said this on Friday, reports BSS.

The tragic incident took place on July 21 in Al-Kufrah city, 1800 km off the capital Tripoli, it said.

According to the statement, the dead were identified as Mosleh Uddin, son of Abdul Based, hailed from Shikolpur village of Lakhai in Hobiganj and Md Ariful Karim, son of Abul Kalam, from South Bhuter Dia village under Babuganj of Barisal.

The injured are Md Saiful Islam, son of Md Abdul Hamid, of Padkona village under Shahjadpur of Sirajganj and Md Raju Mia, son of Md Motiur Rahman, of Tikri village under Modhupur of Tangail.

The bodies of the victims have now been kept in the morgue of Al-Kufrah General Hospital, the statement said.

It added that the injured are now receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The Bangladesh Embassy has already contacted the family members of the deceased and the wounded in Bangladesh, and is in touch with the wounded persons in the hospital and the members of Bangladesh community in Al-Kufrah, numbering about sixty.

“The embassy is also taking necessary measures for sending the bodies to Bangladesh,” reads the statement.

Earlier on July 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release advised the Bangladesh nationals including migrant workers to avoid going to Libya in view of the deteriorating security situation.

Bangladesh nationals in Libya have also been cautioned to avoid areas of conflict and exercise caution in their movements.
