Ambassador-at-large Mohammad Ziauddin has been appointed Bangladesh’s new ambassador to the United States.
The public administration ministry issued a circular on Wednesday appointing him as the country’s ambassador in Washington for three years.
The retired official of the foreign cadre will replace Akramul Qader.
The retired diplomat has served in many positions both at home and abroad.
He served as the Bangladesh ambassador to Italy. He also served as the chief of protocol of the ministry of foreign affairs.
After assuming power, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him as the ambassador-at-large with the rank of state minister in November 2009.
She kept him in this position after coming to power for the second consecutive time in the January 5 national election.
Akramul Qader was made the Bangladesh ambassador to the US in August 2009 under a contractual appointment. His tenure ends in June after being extended several times.
