Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Tuesday claimed that BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman was the mastermind behind the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
“It is said that Khandakar Mushtaque Ahmed played the role of Mir Jafar. But the truth is that the mastermind of the killing was Zia, not Mushtaque. Zia played the role of Lord Clive while Mushtaque that of Mir Jafar,” he said.
Amu, also an advisory council member of the ruling Awami League, came up with the remarks at a discussion organised by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) at Suhrawardy Udyan marking the National Mourning Day.
AL General Secretary and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Food Minister Quamrul Islam, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq and Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, among others, spoke at the programme with DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon in the chair.
Taking a swipe at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for celebrating her birthday on August 15, Amu said she proves through the birthday celebration on the National Mourning Day that she is still with the killers and conspirators. “She never forgot the agony of Pakistan’s defeat in 1971.”
He said an evil force is trying to impede the development of Bangladesh when the country is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He, however, said the force will not succeed in their evil effort no matter how hard they try.
Syed Ashraful Islam repeatedly urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her ‘fake’ birthday by cutting cake on the National Mourning Day.
He also urged her to observe the national mourning.
