The law enforcers arrested Delwar Hossain Noor hailing from Boktapur village, Gazipur as he was chanting various anti-government slogans in front of Khaleda’s office around 2:40pm.
He was later taken to Gulshan Police Station.
Delwar told reporters that he came to the BNP chief’s office from his village home to register his protest against the arrest warrant issued against Khaleda Zia and the arrest of BNP senior leaders.
Slogans like ‘The warrant against Desh Netri Khaleda Zia must be revoked’, “want peace, not violence’, and want the Prime Minister’s resignation, she must quit power’, were written in a white paper he was carrying.
The youth suddenly appeared in front of Khaleda’s office around 2:30pm and started chanting the slogans.
Police asked the boy to stop shouting slogans and leave the area immediately.
As he continued chanting the slogans, the law enforcers detained him and took him to the police station.
Police claimed that the youth is mentally retarded as they had arrested him earlier.
Delwar, however, claimed that police arrested him on January 5 from near BNP’s Nayapaltan central office as he had been there on the occasion of ‘Democracy Killing Day’ as announced by the 20-party alliance.
He said he was later released on bail on January 18.
Meanwhile, the surveillance by plainclothes police was slightly beefed up on Thursday following the issuance of a warrant by a lower court on Wednesday for Khaleda’s arrest in two graft cases.
They are strongly monitoring the overall situation in the area watching who are entering and coming out of the office.
Khaleda together with her party’s some leaders has been staying in the office since January 3.
