You may call it attack; I say mass uprising: JU VC
She says following BCL attack on teachers and students that left 20 hurt
Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam today thanked Chhatra League men, who allegedly attacked the protesters on the campus, for rescuing her from confinement.
JU unit BCL leaders and activists rescued Prof Farzana from her residence after attacking the agitating students, who kept her confined there for around 17 hours, sources said.
After being rescued, Prof Farzana held a press conference and expressed her special gratitude to the BCL men.
“I am grateful to my colleagues, officials and employees. I am also grateful to all the students, especially the Chhatra League. They did this with responsibility,” she said.
She also mentioned, “It’s a great day for me…”
When asked about the BCL attack on the teachers and students, Farzana said, “You can describe it as an attack, but I wouldn’t say.”
“I say it’s a mass uprising. They (BCL) didn’t do it as per my instruction. An attack has taken place there, an attack may take place here too. If it happens there, the proctor will look into it,” Farzana said.
Farzana also said, “I have been confined in my house along with other family members including a child and an 80-year-old woman and we have been subjected to verbal abuse. We haven’t been able to get in or out. Is that not an attack?”
Just moments before the VC’s press conference, at least 20 teachers and students of the university were injured as the university unit BCL men attacked them.
The agitation students confined the VC to her residence from 7:00 pm yesterday demanding her resignation over corruption allegation.
Amid protest, JU authorities closed the university for an indefinite period and asked the students to leave the dormitories by 5:00 pm today.
The JU authorities also imposed a ban on rallies and processions on the campus.
