ICC Associate member Netherlands tasted their first victory in Super-10 match of the ICC World Twenty20 shocking cricket elite England by 45 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Monday.
This is an embarrassing second defeat for the test playing England against Netherlands in the World Twenty20 after their maiden defeat in a close-match in Lords in 2009. Both the teams are already eliminated from race securing two points each from all the four group matches.
Replying to Netherlands’ modest total of 133 for 5, England were dismissed cheaply for 88 runs in 17.4 overs with only three batsmen –- Ravi Bopara (18), Chris Jordan (14) and Alex Hales (12) -– reaching the double figures.
Mudassar Bukhari bowled devastatingly to grab three wickets for 12 runs in his 3.4 overs and was adjudged the player of the match. Logan Van Beek also bowled economically to take three wickets for nine runs in 2 overs.
Sent into bat first, Netherlands scored a moderate 133 for 5 in 20 overs with one down Wesley Barresi contributing the match highest 48 runs off 45 balls that featured two fours and two sixes.
Opener Stephan Myburgh scored 31-ball 39 runs with six fours and a six while Michael Swart made 15-ball 13 runs with two fours.
Captain Stuart Broad claimed three wickets for 24 runs.
