The Commerce Ministry says there is sufficient stocks of essential commodities to hold the priceline during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
Simultaneously, it has warned against market manipulation like hoarding that could drive up prices in an order issued Sunday.
The Commerce Ministry said it was regularly monitoring supply and prices of essentials like rice, wheat, edible oil, sugar, pulses, onion, ginger, garlic, spices, eggs and dates.
An inter-ministrial emergency meeting on the issue was hosted by Additional Commerce Secretary ATM Murtaza Reza Chowdhury.
The meeting said the Ministry have taken all necessary measures to keep the prices and supply of essential stable during Ramadan.
A sharp rise in prices of essential commodities, specially foodstuff, have been witnessed in the past during Ramadan.
This year, the month of Ramadan is expected to begin during the first part of July.
