NP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed’s family wants to take him to a third country for his better treatment following legal procedures.
Hasina Ahmed, wife of Salahuddin, told this to the journalists after visiting her husband in Shillong Civil Hospital on Monday night.
Salahuddin met with his wife after around two and a half months.
Found in Shillong on last Monday after his disappearance from an Uttara house, BNP leader Salahuddin is now under treatment at the hospital in police custody.
Hasina stayed with her husband at Civil Hospital ward from 8:30pm to 9:00pm (local time).
After meeting with Salahuddin, Hasina told the journalists that she was grateful to Indian government for providing her husband a shelter.
“I am very grateful to Indian government, local administration and hospital authorities for giving my husband a shelter and treatment. My husband is very ill. We’ll try to take him to a third country for better treatment following legal procedures,” said Hasina.
Asked about conversation with Salahuddin over legal procedures, Hasina said, “As he (Salahuddin) is very ill, I could not talk to him much today. I’ll see him tomorrow and finalise everything after talking with him.”
Talking about appointing lawyer, Hasina said she would try to bring a lawyer with her Tuesday when she comes.
Cardiologist GK Goswami under whom Salahuddin is being treated told Prothom Alo that Salahuddin underwent several medical tests including a CT scan in the morning.
“I hope reports of the tests will be available tomorrow morning and then we can take a decision over Salahuddin’s health condition,” Goswami said.
A source said Salahuddin might have been taken to a court for trespassing into India if he gets hospital clearance certificate on Tuesday.
Accompanied by one of her relatives and several BNP leaders, Hasina reached the hospital at around 8:30pm (local time).
Hasina, with her brother-in-law, left Bangladesh on Sunday night to visit her husband on an Air India flight, her family sources said.
