Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday threw a question to the main opposition BNP saying that what it would do if the caretaker government (CG) system is restored and it does not do an election.

The Awami League (AL) had earlier supported the CG system and there was reason behind it, Hasina said at a view-exchange meeting with the grassroots-level leaders from Pirojpur at her official residence, Gono Bhaban.

“No elections were held during their (BNP) past tenures without rigging” Hasina said.

“But in our tenure, each and every polls were held in a free, fair and neutral manner, in some cases the BNP candidates won,” the PM said.

About the war crimes trial, Hasina said the government has initiated the trials of war criminals and the international war crimes tribunals have already started pronouncing the verdicts of the cases to ensure justice.

The AL government will also execute the judgments to free the country from the stigma of war crimes, she added.

The PM also said that it is the people who could elect the AL again or any other party by exercising their franchise in the next general election.

“The voters are free to cast their votes. If voted, Awami League will come to power, otherwise not,” the premier said.

“We have nothing to do if the people of the country want to elect the political party who have plundered money and involvement with criminal activities,” she said.
