Ganajagaran Mancha has proposed to create a national network of ‘resistance committees’ to stop communal violence.
Mancha supporters met up with the Hindus of Malopara after their road march reached Jessore’s Abhoynagar on Saturday noon.
This was after two days of protests against post-poll violence on Hindus.
Protests should not be limited , said Imran H Sarkar speaking at the rally.
He proposed that young people form committees in areas affected or at risk of falling prey to communal violence.
“Guard your own areas. Our movement will continue until this terror is over.”
The rally was held next to Malopara’s Chapatola temple at 11am .
The Hindus were visibly happy .
Hindus of Jessore and Dinajpur fell victim to communal violence after the Jan 5 election was opposed and resisted by the Opposition.
Ganajagaran Mancha Spokesperson Imran H Sarkar at a rally in Dhaka’s Shahbagh, on the first day of the platform’s road march, urged all to unite and resist these acts just like in 1971.
Sarkar speaking at the rally in Malopara on Saturday reiterated Ganajagaran Mancha’s demand to ban Jamaat-e-Islami and others parties based on communal politics.
The Mancha also demanded that a separate law against communal violence be enacted, those responsible be speedily judged and victims of persecution be compensated.
The road march against attacks on Hindus after starting off from the movement’s centre Shahbagh held road-side rallies in six places and a public rally in Faridpur before reaching Jessore. The supporters then marched to Malopara.
Hindus, battered and helpless against hate attacks, became visibly emotional upon seeing protesters arrive from Dhaka. Some of them embraced Mancha supporters and broke down in tears.
Imran H Sarkar, addressing the residents of Malopara, said, “Please do not lose hope and do not give in to fear.”
“We held several road rallies before reaching here. After the support we have witnessed we are confident that the majority of Bangladeshis are with you.”
Kazi Abdur Rashid, convener of Ganjagaran Mancha in Jessore, addressed the people before Sarkar. He urged the people to be strong and identify those who were behind the attacks.
He also demanded that all politics based on religion be banned in line with the 1972 Constitution.
Thousands of people and various organisations came to the rally held next to Chapatola temple to show solidarity with the Mancha’s demands.
Emdadul Haque, president of ‘Hakkani Khankah Shairif’ said, “I am ashamed that I am a Muslim. No Muslim in the world has the right to hurt people of other religions.”
Ganajagaran Mancha supporters exchanged views with residents of Malopara on the rally ground. Winter clothes were handed over to various representatives for distribution among the victims.
