In my opinion no.
I’m not going to point to the Gestapo style FSF that he created.
I’m not going to point out his dismissal of two governments in KPK(then NWFP) and Baluchistan.
I’m not going to point out that he rigged the 1977 elections.
I’m not going to point out that he served under Ayub khan.
No, I’m going to mention his conduct during the 1971 crisis.
Not the fact that he refused to make a government with Sheik Mujibar Rahman.
No, I’m going to talk about his reaction to operation searchlight.
Bhutto was in Dhaka, staying on the eleventh floor of the Hotel intercontinental when the operation began and from his vantage point could see first hand what it entailed. This is what he said of it in his own words:
A number of places were ablaze and we saw the demolition of the office of the newspaper “The People”. This local English daily had indulged in crude and unrestrained provocation against the Army and West Pakistan. With the horizon ablaze, my thoughts turned to the past and to the future. I wondered what was in store for us. Here in front of my eyes I saw the death and destruction of our own people.[1]
After witnessing such an event, Bhutto was evacuated the next day.
And do you know what he uttered after he saw such an event? What he said about the whole situation when he landed in Karachi?
He said these “memorable” words, which to me epitomizes his whole character.
By the grace of God, Pakistan has been saved.[2]
