The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Sunday announced it would deliver the verdict in the war crimes case against Obaidul Haque alias Taher and Ataur Rahman Noni for the war crimes they allegedly committed in Netrakona during the Liberation War any day.
After ending the rebuttal of the prosecution, the tribunal chair Justice Md Anwarul Haque said they kept the judgment CAV. CAV, the short form of Latin legal term curia advisari vult means that the verdict would be delivered later.
Before prosecution’s rebuttal, the tribunal gave a chance to defence lawyer to say something. Defence counsel Md Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar said his client was innocent and the prosecution failed to prove any of the charges against the accused. ‘I plead for their acquittal,’ he said.
‘We proved all the charges against Taher and Noni beyond any shadow of doubt and seek the highest punishment for them prescribed in the law,’ prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal submitted.
Noni and Taher were in the dock.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 indicted them on March 2, 2015 on six charges including genocide, murders, abduction, torture in confinement, looting and arson attacks.
The trial of the duo began on April 5.
The defence produced no witnesses while 23 prosecution witnesses testified against the duo.
