The Election Commission postponed voting in nearly 500 polling stations in the wake of widespread violence at different parts of the country that left at least 19 people dead.
Election Commissioner Zabed Ali hinted that the figure of the centres where election has been postponed would be approximately 500.
While talking to reporters on Sunday evening, the commissioner said the number of postponed polling stations is nearly 500.
Sources at the Election Commission secretariat said the election in more than 400 polling centres of 31 parliamentary constituencies has been postponed in 18 districts in the country.
However, no official of the commission secretariat provided specific figure and clear data over the number of the polling centres where election has been postponed.
Of the postponed centres, 114 in four constituencies of Gaibandha, 15 in Jessore-3, 47 in Jessore-5, 46 in Bogra-7, 12 in Laxmipur, 44 in Rangpur, 15 in Dinajpur and 10 in Nilphamari.
The EC officials showed their unwillingness to provide the statistics of the polling stations where the election has been deferred.
As part of the country’s 10th parliamentary elections, voting was held in 147 constituencies out of 300. No election was held in the rest 153 constituencies as the parliamentary seats got single candidates who were elected unopposed.
