The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law Ministry on Thursday suggested the government to reduce backlog of cases across the country using the techniques the Mymensingh District Judge has applied for the speedy disposal of 50,000 cases.
It also recommended the ministry to arrange Mymensingh tour for the parliamentary committee members to gather experience to follow the example of Mymensingh to reduce the backlog of the cases in other districts.
The parliamentary watchdog came up with the suggestions at its 5th meeting held with committee chairman Suranjit Sengupta at the Parliament Secretariat.
Committee members Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Shahara Khatun, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Abdul Majid Khan, Talukder Md Yunus, Advocate Ziaul Haque Mridha and Safura Begum attended the meeting.
Besides, the parliamentary body suggested appointment of an adequate number of judges alongside strengthening monitoring the activities of judges, developing the infrastructures, providing logistic support to them, ensuring the quality of government pleaders and public prosecutors and modernising their offices.
The committee asked the ministry to give priority to honesty, competence and educational qualifications during recruitment of marriage registrars.
It also suggested legal actions against marriage registers considering the allegations lodged against them.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land Ministry held its second meeting with its chairman Rezaul Karim Hira in the chair at the Parliament Secretariat on the day.
The committee recommended the Land Ministry to ensure the rights of landless people and take action against those who hinder the use of Khas land after allocation.
It also suggested the recruitment to all the vacant posts under the ministry.
Committee members Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, Mir Showkat Ali Badsha, Ishaque Hossain Talukder, Mokbul Hossain, Shamsul Alam Dudu and Jahan Ara Begum Surma took part in the meeting.
