The US has acknowledged Bangladesh’s strides against terrorism saying its continued efforts have made it more difficult for transnational terrorists to operate in or use the territory of the country.
“The Government of Bangladesh has demonstrated political will and firm commitment to combating domestic and transnational terrorist groups, and its counterterrorism efforts made it harder for transnational terrorists to operate in or establish safe havens in its territory,” said the Country Reports on Terrorism 2014.
It also highlighted the efforts made by the Bangladesh government and Bangladesh Bank to prevent money laundering to finance terrorist activities.
Regarding the regional and international cooperation, the report said that the current government of Bangladesh has demonstrated its strong interest in cooperating with India on counterterrorism, and has signed memoranda of understanding with a number of countries to share evidence regarding criminal investigations, including investigations related to financial crimes and terrorist financing.
The report also appreciated Bangladesh’s use of strategic communication to counter violent extremism, especially among youth.
The report mentioned the arrest of several members of terrorist groups Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, Harkatul Jihad al Islami-Bangladesh, and Ansarullah Bangla Team by the government forces and praised the cooperation of the country with the United States to further strengthen control of its borders and land, sea, and air ports of entry.
