The United States on Wednesday expressed its ‘deep concern’ over the recent attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh and asked the government to “act authoritatively” to arrest the culprits.
In a statement the US embassy in Dhaka also called upon all “those involved in these incidents to desist from abusing the rights of minorities”.
It also asked all parties “to ensure they are stopped immediately and the perpetrators are held accountable”.
Hindus came under attack in Pabna and Lalmonirhat districts this week during and before the opposition enforced 60-hour shutdown.
Condemning the attacks on Hindus, the US once again expressed its concern over the deaths and injuries in the ongoing political violence, particularly during the shutdowns, in the lead up to the upcoming general polls.
