Tk200 banknotes to arrive on March 18
The Bangladesh Bank is going to issue regular currency notes and commemorative notes of Tk200 to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The central bank will also issue Tk100 denomination commemorative gold and silver coins and Tk100 commemorative notes, said a press release on Thursday.
The new notes will be available at all branches of the Bangladesh Bank, including its headquarters from March 18.
”Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Centenary 1920-2020” will be written at the upper side of the Tk200 notes while ”Birth Centenary” will be written at the left corner of it.
The Tk200 notes, like every other regular note issued by the central bank, can be used in day to day transactions.
Also, currency collectors can collect sample commemorative Tk200 notes from the Bangladesh Bank’s Motijheel office and Taka Museum (Currency Museum) at Mirpur at a fixed price.
The last time the central bank introduced banknotes of a new denomination was in 2008, when the Tk1,000 notes entered circulation.
The Bangladesh Bank has been publishing commemorative notes and coins to mark different occasions for decades.
