US making mistakes by exerting pressure on govt, he says
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Friday said the size of the country’s national budget for the next fiscal year is likely to be Tk 2.5 trillion.
“The budget for the next fiscal year may be two and a half lakh crore taka,” he told reporters after inauguration the 28-megawatt Shahjahan Ullah power plant set up on private entrepreneurship at Kumargaon in the city.
The national budget for the current fiscal year of 2013-14 was Tk 2.2 trillion.
Muhith also said pre-budget discussion for the 2014-15 fiscal year will begin in Sylhet on February 22.
Terming the present government ‘legal’, the minister said it will remain in power for five years.
“BNP lost the opportunity to participate in the election due to its wicked brains. The US is making mistakes putting pressure on us. The country’s people have voted us. We’ll remain in power for five years,” he said.
About the country’s power situation, Muhith said the Awami League government became successful in producing power. “There’re no frequent power outages like in the past.”
Stating that country’s power general capacity was only 3,000MW whereas the demand was double when the last Awami League government assumed power in 2009, he said the government had been able to add 7,000 megawatt power to the national grid implementing quick power plants.
