Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general Benazir Ahmed on Monday announced a Tk 10 lakh bounty for any member of militant outfit if he or she shuns militancy and provides information over their activities.
The RAB DG came up with the announcement while talking to reporters at Shahjalal Bazar Shelter Centre in Tangrakura char of Sariakandi upazila after a 12-hour joint force drive carried out in Dhunat and Sariakandi uapzilas in search of militant training camps.
During the drive, the joint forces unearthed a militant hideout at Tangrakura Char of Jamuna River in Sariakandi upazila.
Besides, the RAB DG also announced Tk 5 lakh bounty for information leading to the arrest of militants. The identities of the informers will not be revealed, Benazir added.
The RAB DG said, as per the statement of Shafiul, arrested in connection with the Sholakia terrorist attack, the joint forces conducted the drive in the char and recovered some jihadi books, machetes, two sets of black dresses used by militants and some locally-made sharp weapons from the hideout.
The drive was launched at 4:00 am and continued till 4:00 pm. Some 450 members of RAB, police and BGB took part in the drive. However, there was no arrest during the drive.
The RAB DG said militants received training from the camp set up in the char area.
He also urged the residents of the char to assist the law enforcement agencies by providing information about militants.
During the interrogation, Shafiul said he had received training from one such camp in Sariaknadi upazila, he added.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters at Sonahata Government Primary School Premises in Dhunat upazila, RAB-5 commanding officer Mahbub Alam said no one was arrested in the special anti-militant drive in Dhunat upazila. The drive will continue, he said.
