Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday said they have taken tight security measures in and around the Ekushey Book Fair premises to avert any unpleasant incident in the upcoming fair, reports news agency UNB.
Besides, there will be enough lighting in and around the fair venue as the spot where blogger Avijit Roy was killed last year had the shadows of darkness.
DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia came up with the remarks after a programme of cleanliness awareness at Rajarbagh police lines in the city.
Dhaka South City Corporation arranged the programme where DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon also spoke.
Avijit Roy, son of Prof Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University Campus on 26 February, 2015.
DSCC and Dhaka University (DU) authorities have already requested for providing adequate lights for the month-long book fair, which is scheduled to start from Monday. “We’ll work in coordination with other authorities, including DSCC and the DU,” he said.
“We want to provide security to the city dwellers and we have been working in this regard,” the DMP Commissioner added.
Mayor Sayeed Khokon sought cooperation from all in turning the city a clean one.
