Primary results of ongoing Economic Census-2013 would be finalized by December this year.
The information was revealed on Sunday when Planning Minister A K Khandaker called on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban to apprise him of various features of the census.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is conducting the census across the country costing around taka 188 crore.
During the meet, the minister said “The main aim of the census is to take up a plan based on right information of the economy. The census result would help us with regard to future development planning as well as to identify the fragile sectors of the economy with a view to improving those sectors,” he said.
A K Khandaker also apprised the President that the census is being held for the third time to get an economic overview. The first and second economic censuses were held in 1986 and 2001 respectively.
The minister also apprised the President that the Union Information Service Center (UISC) under the Access to Information (A2I) project, running from Prime Minister’s Office at all unions, has been playing a great role in data collection for the census.
The ongoing census has been carried out through a questionnaire comprising 27 questions.
President Abdul Hamid hoped that the census would be successfully completed under the dynamic leadership of the planning minister.
Secretaries concerned of the President’s office were present.
