Bangladesh’s young pacer Taskin Ahmed said on Thursday that he is determined to play in the forthcoming England series at home by successfully rectifying his bowling action.
Taskin along with spin bowler Arafat Sunny was suspended from bowling in international cricket after his action was found illegal during the ICC World Twenty20 in India.
Taskin, who is allowed to play in domestic cricket, said he has worked extensively in recent months to remodel his action and preparing to appear for a retest soon.
‘I hope I will comeback before the England series,’ Taskin said on the sideline of a training session on Thursday. ‘I do not want to miss that series by any means. I have been working very hard so that I can appear in test before the England series.’
The 21-year old paceman, however, is not going to compromise with his pace – his biggest strength in bowling – despite going through the resurrection.
‘Whatever happens I will not compromise with the pace,’ he said. ‘I am a fast bowler and my main strength is pace. I am following my coaches’ words and hopefully I will eradicate my problems soon.’
The paceman was uncertain when he will appear in the test and said that he will only go there when his coaches will feel confident about him.
Though his bowling was called into question in international cricket, Taskin played successfully in local cricket for Abahani Limited in Dhaka Premier League.
He claimed 26 wickets in 15 matches – the third highest in the league – which played a key role in Abahani’s winning feat.
While his fellow suspect Arafat Sunny was reported again in Dhaka League, Taskin completed the league without being questioned once. The paceman said he did not stop working on his action despite playing in the league.
‘I made five sessions during the league. I applied the things that I learned during the matches,’ he said. ‘I think playing in the league helped me because it is always better to play in a match than participate in the practice session.’
‘My actions were captured through video cameras and none objected on my action, that’s a proof of my improvement.’
Mahbub Alam Jaki, a pace bowling instructor of BCB, who worked with the bowler during the past few months, said his main focus is to retain Taskin’s pace.
‘My first focus is pace, said Mahbub. ‘Taskin is all about pace. He is the fastest in the world among the bowlers of his age. His main strength is pace. If his pace is reduced in order to correct him, he won’t remain the same Taksin. Nobody would bother him. ‘
‘Whenever you repair a building you can’t afford to break it, you have to repair by maintaining the main design and structure. I am planning the remodeling by sustaining his pace. It’s not an easy job,’ added the coach.
Mahbub was satisfied with Taskin and insisted that the young man has the endurance to overcome the rigorous tests that take huge toll on his body and mind.
‘Among the nine sessions he has completed six of them were drill sessions, which were extremely difficult, but he showed that he can learn quickly and overcome any sort of difficulties.
‘I am working with his central nervous system and improving his muscle memory. His bad habits are being replaced by good ones and the muscle memory is changing his central nervous system.
‘The whole system, known as kinetic system, comes from Central Nervous System. I am trying to change this kinetic system. He has improved by 60-70 per cent,’ he said.
