The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will give its reaction on Friday to the High Court verdict that sentenced its exiled senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman to seven years imprisonment in a money laundering case.
The High Court on Thursday scrapped the acquittal of the BNP senior vice chairman from a money laundering case and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment along with fine.
Following the court verdict, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Thursday evening sat with the party senior leaders at her Gulshan office ostensibly to discuss next course of actions.
After coming out of the meeting around 10:00pm, BNP senior joint secretary general Rizvi said the party leaders were discussing the verdict, the possible next legal steps and the country’s overall situation.
He said they will inform the media about the outcomes of the meeting through a press conference at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office at 11:00am Friday.
On 17 November 2013, a Dhaka court had acquitted Tarique while sentenced his friend Giasuddin Al Mamun to seven years along with a fine of Tk 40 crore in the ACC case filed for illegally sending Tk 20.41 crore to Singapore between 2003 and 2007.
