Shutdown and dialogue cannot go together, Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy has said as he urged the Opposition to call off its 72-hour shutdown.
“The Opposition party is perpetrating terrorism while calling for a dialogue,” he told a rally, organised by Awami League in Sylhet City on Friday.
“They are not only unleashing anarchy through their shutdown but also stalling examinations of the future of the nation – the students,” the Prime Minister’s son added.
“How will they value education when they themselves have not studied!” he quiiped.
He said the Awami League had established democracy spilling blood time and again and categorically said that no more undemocratic government would be allowed in.
“The next election will be held as per the Constitution. None can derail it,” he asserted.
The incumbent government in 2011 scrapped the caretaker provision from the Constitution, which means it will fill in the caretaker role for the general elections due by Jan 24.
The BNP has been demanding the restoration of the non-party caretaker government, which had overseen the general elections from 1991 to 2008.
Joy spoke at the Awami League’s rally held at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium as the chief guest.
