A fisherman was killed and another injured as their fishing boat sank in the Sandha River in Kaukhali upazila on Tuesday during a violent storm.
The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar, 55, a resident of Chirapara village of the upazila.
Kaukhali upazila chairman SM Ahsan Kabir said the fishing boat sank around 1:25pm while Bakar and another fisherman, Sujan, were fishing in the river after being hit by the storm.
The upazila chairman said Bakar drowned in the incident while Sujan suffered injuries.
Later, locals rescued the body and injured Sujan. Sujan was admitted to Upazila Health Complex.
Besides, 8-10 other fishing boats were said to have sunk in the river during the storm, but there was no report of any casualty in the incidents.
The upazila chairman said another 10 people were injured either in house collapse or tree fall at different parts of the upazila during the storm.
