Sri Lanka clinched a huge victory over Afghanistan
Lankans defeated Afghanistan by a huge margin of 129 runs on the 7th match of Asia cup cricket 2014.
Chasing a score of 253 Afghans capitulaed to just 124 runs and conceded the large victory to the former world champion.
Earlier, A dazzling finish from skipper Angelo Mathews ensured Sri Lanka to achieve a fighting total of 253 for 6 in their stipulated 50 overs.
Tight and sensible bowling efforts by Afghan bowlers did not allow Sri Lankan batsmen to score freely.
Veteran Kumar Sangakkara top scored 76 runs off 102 balls and Mathews scored a brisk 45 off 41 balls, while Perera supported the captain with 19 runs off 23 balls.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and was elected to bat first in the seventh match of Asia Cup 2014 against Afghanistan at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
With two wins and a healthy net run rate of +0.168, Sri Lanka virtually ensured a berth in the finals of the Asia Cup, while Afghanistan’s hopes of further progress in the tournament depends on the outcome of the match.
Afghanistan has four points from two matches, with one win and a loss in their kitty.
