If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind is no more a question.
The answer is here in Dhaka — Spring has arrived in all its colours.
The queen of seasons grips life anew from Friday, the first day of Falgun, according to the Bengali calendar.
The trees will shed their leaves to dress in new ones while flowers will decorate the green to announce the arrival of a new Bengali year.
Festivity has kicked off right from the start of the season as the capital’s Shahbagh, Charukola, TSC, Public Library and other areas have joined in celebration, despite a violent ongoing agitation by the BNP-led alliance.
Men and women clad in colourful dresses joined processions welcoming the advent of Spring with songs and dances at Charukola’s Bakultola at Dhaka University around 7am.
A vibrant rally set out from there later in the morning.
The second phase of the ceremony took place there in the afternoon.
Apart from that, celebrations were scheduled to take place in Uttara Sector 3’s Unmukta Mancha, Old Dhaka’s Bahadur Shah Park and Lakhsmi Bazar and Dhanmondi’s Rabindra Sarobar.
The Amar Ekushey Book Fair has also started at the outset of Spring.
