Simanta, Shila claim SA Games gold

Weightlifter Mabia Akter Simanta clinched the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the 12th SA Games and was quickly followed by swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila in the podium in Guwahati, India on Sunday.
Simanta won the gold when she came out on top in 63kg category while Shila triumphed in the women’s 100metre breaststroke to become the first ever Bangladeshi female swimmer to earn a gold medal.
Simanta lifted a total of 149kg at the Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium to clinch the gold medal.
Weightlifters Fullapati Chakma and Shathi Sultana brought two silver medals for Bangladesh in 58kg and 69kg weight category respectively.
