Sujan was allegedly tortured to death by police who had him in custody at Mirpur police station in the capital on July 13
Mirpur police station Sub-Inspector Zahidur Rahman has been arrested on charge of killing jhut (garment waste) trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan.
The arrest was made from Rajarbagh police lines in the capital on Wednesday afternoon, Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed has told the Dhaka Tribune.
Sujan was allegedly tortured to death by police who had him in custody at Mirpur police station in the capital on July 13, hours after he had been detained along with his wife and son.
Later, Zahidur was suspended to Rajarbagh Police Lines as part of the primary punitive measures against him for the death of the 36-year-old trader.
Imtiyaz said he also formed a three-member committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur Division Jasim Uddin to carry out a probe into the incident.
“The committee has been asked to submit a report within seven working days and the next measures will be taken after we get the report,” he added.
