Shuvagata Hom’s all-round performance kept Bangladesh ‘A’ team in the game after they made a dismal start to the three-day match against Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka on Tuesday at Mysore.
Shuvagata picked up three wickets to restrict the hosts for 163-6 at stumps after he made a fifty to help his side post 158.
Having won the toss, Bangladesh ‘A’ skipper Mominul Haque decided to bat first before half of his side were out for just 41 runs.
Opener Rony Talukdar continued his miserable performance in the tour as he was dismissed for a duck in the first ball of the second over after his partner Anamul conceded the first over as maiden.
Mominul soon followed Rony for just one run, the only run scored by the visitors till then.
Liton Das and Anamul made a brief partnership of 26 before the latter was out for five and another Test batsman Soumya Sarker got out in the same score to put Bangladesh into 27-4.
Soumya, who scored a duck, has been consistently failing to score runs throughout the series along with Rony and Anamul leaving Liton and vice captain Nasir Hussain to repair the innings once again.
Nasir, who snatched the only victory for the visitors in the tour, failed this time when he was out for just eight as the fourth victim of teen-age medium pacer Prasidh Krishna.
Liton got out just after his run a ball fifty to reduce the score to 6-76.
Shuvagata fought with the tail-enders to take the score to 148-9 when he was out for 55.
He made the highest partnership of the innings, adding 39 in the ninth wicket stand with Saqlain Sajib who was not out for 15 when last batsman Al-Amin Hossain was out for five in the fourth ball of the 39th over.
Prasidh finished the innings with 5-49 and Udit Patel had 2-11.
Shuvagata and Saqlain once again formed crucial partnership in Indian innings with cherry as both of them picked three wickets apiece.
Left-arm spinner Saqlain gave his team the breakthrough by dismissing Mayank Agarwal when the score was 28 before right handed off-spinner Suvagata picked other opener Ravikumar Samarth to make the score 2-52.
