Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated her British counterpart David Cameron on his re-election.
She has invited him to visit Bangladesh to take bilateral relations to a new high.
Cameron won the May 7 elections with an outright majority to govern Britain for another five years.
Hasina, in a message, said his renewed mandate was “certainly” the recognition of his “astute leadership”, particularly for transforming the British economy as the fastest growing in Europe.
She highlighted “excellent” UK-Bangladesh relations and hoped that in his new term, this would continue “to grow with fresh initiatives” exploring new areas of cooperation.
“Relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have been mature, strong and enduring,” the prime minister wrote, according to foreign ministry.
She, however, said scopes remained for further development of the bilateral relations through trade, investment, education and knowledge-sharing.
“To that end, I would like to invite you to visit Bangladesh in near future at a mutually convenient time,” she wrote.
“You, then, would be able to see for yourself the overall progress made by Bangladesh, particularly through mainstreaming and empowering the women.”
The visit would infuse “further impetus to our relations and take the same to a greater height”, Hasina said.
The prime minister wished Cameron good health and long life, and peace, progress, and prosperity of the “warm, friendly” people of the Great Britain and the Northern Ireland.
