Shakib banned for 6 months

However, Shakib will be able to participate in the practice sessions, the BCB chief says

Bangladesh Cricket Board has banned national cricket all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for six months from all forms of cricket on charges of breaching rules.

Moreover, he will not get permission to play any tournament outside the country for one and a half years.

After a board meeting, BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon MP made the disclosure at a press briefing on Monday.

He said it was a difficult decision to take action against a cricketer like Shakib Al Hasan. However, it emerged as “unavoidable” since allegations had been coming against him one after another.

He also said the players who are widely respected needed to be careful regarding upholding the prestige.

The relevant rules regarding the suspension would be applied, Papon said.

However, Shakib would be able to participate in practice sessions, the BCB boss added.

Shakib attended the board meeting that began started around 1:30pm.

The meeting took action against Shakib as he had gone to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) without taking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board.

Shakib returned home from London on Sunday.

On Saturday, the BCB chief said he received a message from the head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, who complained that Shakib had threatened him to quit playing for the Tigers.

Shakib made the alleged threat after the coach asked him to join the national team’s training camp on August 1. The CPL runs from July 11 to August 16.

The cricketer admitted that he had initially reacted angrily with Hathurusingha; however, later realised his mistake and apologised to the coach.
