Shab-e-Barat, the holy night of fortune and forgiveness, will be observed on the night of June 13 as the new moon for the month of Shaban was not sighted anywhere in the country on Thursday.
The decision came at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation office in the evening.
Secretary to the Religious Affairs Ministry and vice-chairman of the committee Chowdhury M Babul Hasan presided over the meeting.
The meeting reviewed reports and messages received from across the country about non-appearance of the new moon in the skies of Bangladesh.
“As the moon of Shaban of 1435 Hijri was not sighted in the skies of Bangladesh on Thursday, the month of Rajab will end on Friday on completion of 30 days and Holy Shaban month will begin on Saturday,” an Islamic Foundation press release said.
