Haji Selim, Sayeed Khokon, Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Sarah Begum Kobori all collected their nomination forms on Tuesday to run in the Dhaka City Corporation mayoral elections.
Awami League Dhaka city unit joint secretary Haji Mohammad Selim and organising secretary Sayeed Khokon have collected nomination papers to run for the mayor of DCC South, confirmed their personal assistants.
Sayeed Khokhon collected the form around 12:00noon while Haji Selim collected his form around 1:15pm at the Dhaka South Returning Office.
Addressing Haji Selim, Sayeed Khokon said, “I have full faith in the Election Commission. It will take action against those who try to violate the code of conduct.”
Regarding the allegations of loan defaultis against him, Sayeed Khokon told the journalists, “I’m not a loan defaulter. I have re-paid all the loans I had.”
Representatives of Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and former Awami League parliamentarian Sarah Begum Kobori collected the forms at the returning office of DCC North.
Assistant returning officer Nazrul Islam confirmed the news to Prothom Alo.
Earlier on Monday, AL-backed candidate Anisul Haque purchased his nomination form to contest for mayor in DCC North polls. So far 15 mayoral aspirants have collected nomination forms from Dhaka North.
Till date, 269 candidates have collected nomination forms for the posts of councilors and 62 for the reserved posts of women councilors.
From Dhaka South, 9 mayoral candidates, 525 councilor candidates and 102 reserved women councilor candidates have collected nomination forms so far.
The polls to the divided Dhaka city corporations and Chittagong City Corporation are scheduled to be held on 28 April. The last day for submitting nomination forms is 29 March while 9 April is the last date of withdrawing nomination papers.
