Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari on Thursday accepted charges against four accused-Tarique, private TV channel ETV’s former chairman Abdus Salam and TV channel’s newsmen Mahathir and Kanak Sarwar-and issued arrest warrants against Tarique and Mahathir.
Court police sub-inspector Tahera Begum told the Prothom Alo the court fixed 2 November for submitting police report regarding the arrest of absconding Tarique and Mahathir.
On 8 January 2015, the treason case was filed with Tejgaon police station over the live telecast of a speech of Tarique Rahman at a programme in London on 5 January 2015.
According to the case statement, Tarique instigated his party men by delivering ‘provocative’ speech against law enforcers which led to anarchy in the country at that time.
Salam, who was arrested on 6 January, in a statement before a magistrate, confessed to sedition acts.
Tarique has been in London since 11 September 2008 on medical grounds after securing parole in various cases.
