Schedules of 8-10 trains cancelled ‘fearing sabotage’

The authorities on Friday cancelled the schedules of 8-10 intercity trains ‘fearing sabotage’ ahead of Saturday’s long march towards Dhaka by Hefazat-e-Islam.

Director General of Bangladesh Railway Abu Taher told UNB over telephone that the authorities cancelled the schedules of the trains, scheduled to ply on different routes from this (Friday) evening.

UNB Gazipur correspondent said: Mymensingh-bound Brahmaputra Express train from Dhaka remain stranded at Joydevpur Railway Station and another Dhaka-bound commuter train from Jamalpur got stuck at Rajendrapur Railway Station as a group of youths forcibly took Rajendrapur  stationmaster out of his office at about 6:30pm.

The two trains finally departed for their destinations after the stationmaster was freed three hours later.

Train services on Dhaka-Mymensingh route through Gazipur also remain snapped for three hours from 6:30pm to 9:30pm due to the incident.
