“It will re-emerge with new looks and a new name in 2016,” the hotel’s marketing and communications department chief Shahidus Sadeque told bdnews24.com on Sunday.

He said the one-and-a-half-year long interval will start from Sept 1 when the guests would leave.

Responding to a query, Sadeque said the InterContinental was currently managing the hotel. However, due to quality concerns, their name is not being used.

“Bangladesh Services Limited will remain the hotel’s owner after the renovation.

“The old workforce will be there, too, but there will be difference in the quality of service.”

After renovation, luxury hotel brand InterContinental will return to manage it after a break of three decades.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Khurshed Alam Chowdhury, also Bangladesh Services Ltd chairman, had said their renovation plans were delayed by the T20 World Cup.

Ruposhi Bangla’s 272 guest rooms will be enlarged in line with international five-star standards and the number of rooms will be brought down to 230.

Since its opening in 1962, the hotel on Minto Road has witnessed many historical events that shaped the nation.
