A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader has been detained three days after armed attacks on students agitating for a roll-back of hiked fees and cancellation of evening courses at Rajshahi University (RU).
Motihar Police Station OC Shamsur Noor said they held RU BCL Unit’s Mother Bakhs Hall General Secretary Delwar Hossain Dils at the Rajshahi City Court area at around 4pm on Wednesday.
His name has been included in the lists of those accused of attacking the agitating students, he said.
Police and BCL had on Sunday attacked the agitating students, injuring at least 50 of them, mostly with rubber bullets and tear gas canisters.
The next day, police, RU authorities and BCL each filed two cases with the Motihar police against 475 persons, naming 105 of them.
The student wing of the Awami League also expelled two of its leaders for their involvement in the attacks. It even formed a committee to investigate the incident.
