The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Sunday urged the government to take necessary measures for maintaining stability in the country’s readymade garment industry.

Voicing deep concern over the recent vandalism, arson and instability in the RMG sector, the apex trade body in a statement said, “FBCCI expects that the government will come forward with the owners and workers for a quick solution to the problem for the sake of growth in the RMG industry and overall economic growth.”

It said the FBCCI fully supports a justified wage structure for the betterment of the RMG industry and its workers as the workers are the key to production.

“FBCCI hopes that the government, BGMEA, workers leaders and other stakeholders will soon reach a consensus on wage structure,” the statement said.

The apex trade body also said workers unrest centering wage structure has become a matter of grave concern. “A vested quarter is carrying out violent acts capitalising the workers unrest. FBCCI seeks full support from the Home Ministry, Labour Ministry and Commerce Ministry.”

The FBCCI observed that the RMG industry has been passing through a transitional period, and the government along with the stakeholders is putting in their best efforts to maintain the export flow to the world market despite limitations.
