Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday urged the Election Commission (EC) to reschedule the date for submitting nomination papers terming it ‘unrealistic’.
“The date fixed for submitting nomination papers is unrealistic. There should have been at least two weeks’ gap between the announcement of schedule and the date for submission of nomination papers. But it’s now only of one week. So, the date will have to be re-fixed,” he said.
The JP chief came up with the demand in his reaction to the election schedule announced for the 10th parliamentary election.
Ershad said it will be difficult for candidates to submit their nomination papers by December 2 as the time is very limited.
As per the schedule, the 10th parliamentary elections will be held on January 5 and the intending candidates will get till December 2 to submit their nominations.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on December 5-6. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 13.
