Red notice on Tarique ‘negative strategy’: BNP

BNP has termed the issuance of red notice by the Interpol against BNP senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman a “negative strategy and a confusing campaign”.

Such “smear campaign” by the Interpol was also the dramatic manifestation of the recent statements of the government’s ministers, BNP International Affairs Secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon said.

He was conveying his party’s opinion on the issue at a press conference at the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in the afternoon.

The Interpol does not impose red notice, Ripon said adding that it publishes information given by its member states.

“Before this, a number of ministers said that Tarique would be brought back through the Interpol and tried at the court. This red notice is the manifestation of the statement of the ministers. This is just a drama,” the BNP leader said.

International police organisation Interpol had issued a red notice against Tarique yesterday in connection with the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on the Awami League rally that left 24 people dead. The alert has no issuance date.
