“If you (PM) are relay a patriot, let’s reach a logical point through talks. Come to the path of light from the darkness,” BNP spokesman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said pointing at the Prime Minister.
He made the call at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the evening.
Dudu, also an adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, was critical of the Prime Minister’s remarks that BNP has no popularity as it has created chaos in the country in the name of movement, saying the comment is indecent.
“The Prime Minister’s remark is unacceptable… it’s indecent to make such a remark sitting in the chair of the Prime Minister,” the BNP leader observed.
In a views-exchange meeting with the grassroots leaders of Awami League from Netrakona district, the Prime Minister criticised the opposition leader for what she said killing people in the name of agitation programmes.
“Khaleda Zia will not be able to gain the trust of the mass people with her destructive activities. People have reposed their trust in us, we’ve the public support,” Sheikh Hasina told her party’s local leaders.
Reacting to the PM’s remarks, Dudu urged the PM to step down and hold the next general election under a non-party administration to test the popularity.
“The popularity of BNP will be proved through the election. Arrange the next polls under a non-party government abdicating the throne. We want to face you in the election. But it won’t be acceptable that you will treat us as a subordinates sitting in the throne,” he added.
Replying to a question, the BNP leader said their movement will continue until their demand for restoration of the caretaker government is met though they called off their Sunday’s hartal due to the tropical storm Mahasen.
Dudu on behalf of BNP chief Khaleda Zia called upon the party’s leaders and activists to stand beside those affected by the hit of the storm in the coastal regions.
He also expressed gratitude to the Almighty Allah as the storm caused less loss of lives and property.
The BNP spokesman also denounced the arrest of BNP leaders Salahuddin Ahmed and Barkatullah Bulu.
He demanded immediate release of all BNP leaders, including Salahuddin and Bulu, and urged the government to resolve the ongoing political crisis through dialogue shunning its repressive acts.
