The Election Commission is fully prepared to hold re-polling in 390 centres of seven parliamentary constituencies in six districts on Thursday.
Balloting had to be suspended in 392 centres during the Jan 5 general election because of violence, arson and snatching of ballot boxes.
Re-polling, however, cannot be held in two centres in the Kurigram-4 constituency on Jan 16 because of a High Court order.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said they had made adequate preparations to avoid any untoward incident during the re-poll.
A strike has been called on the re-polling day at Bogra-4 seat.
The Awami League has formed a government with over three-fourths of majority in the 10th parliamentary polls following a BNP boycott of the election.
The first session of the 10th Parliament will begin on Jan 29.
Polling will be held from 8am to 4pm on Thursday.
Election Commissioner Md Shahnawaz told reporters on Wednesday, “All preparations have been completed.”
Army, RAB, BGB and Police will be guarding the voting centres, he said. The re-poll will be held in Dinajpur-4, Bogra-7, Gaibandha-1, 2, 3, Jessore-5 and Lakshmipur-1.
Before the polling day, CEC Ahmad expected re-polling in the seven seats to be peaceful.
Law enforces have been asked all-out cautionary measures about it, he said.
“I hope the Jan 5 polling violence will not be repeated on the tomorrow (Thursday)’s vote. We want peaceful polls and so do the voters.”
Awami League Election Conducting Committee co-chairman HT Imam went to the Election Commission on Wednesday evening.
The Awami League, he told reporters, promised allout cooperation with the Election Commission to conduct the polls without any hurdle.
