Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhteruzzaman on Tuesday said it is not possible to hold the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election again.
“DUCSU election was held as per rules and regulations. It is not possible to hold re-election,” he said.
The students have given their mandate and it is not possible to make another decision about re-election based on anyone’s demand, he added.
Quota reform movement leader Nurul Haq Nur was elected Vice-President of Ducsu in Monday’s elections while Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Golam Rabbani won the post of general secretary. Saddam Hussain won the post of assistant general secretary post. Eight of nine secretary posts went to candidates from the Chhatra League panel.
Earlier, the protest has taken a turn for the worse as different factions of protesters engage in violence, chase and counter chase at the campus.
The opposition activists were parading for a re-election, when the attack took place around 2:00pm. Nur was at the rally.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, has staged demonstration rejecting the results and demanding re-elections to Dhaka University Centraql Students’ Union (DUCSU).
The BCL men started demonstration this morning after the varsity authorities had announced quota reform leader Nurul Haque Nur as the elected vice president of DUCSU in the Monday’s elections.
On Monday, all the major opposing panels boycotted the DUCSU polls alleging irregularities.
Most of the classes were boycotted this morning as the panels of leftists, quota reformists and independents called a student strike protesting the irregularities in the elections.
