The OC of Gaibandha’s Govindaganj Police Station has been transferred following allegations of a girl being raped by policemen in the station.
Superintendant of Police of the district, Md Sajid Hossain, has acknowledged the transfer order for OC Sheikh Mohammad Delwar Hossain on Thursday.
Five police constables of the police station were accused of raping an adolescent girl in their custody on Sept 28.
Locals tipped police about a girl in tears near Dhaka-Rangpur highway and a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Akmal Hossain, had picked up the girl from the place the same night and brought her to the police station.
The Chief Magistrate Court at Govindaganj, after she was produced before it, ordered police to send her to Gaibandha district jail’s safe custody on Sep 30.
After taken to jail, the girl complained to the Jail Superintendent Shahidul Islam that she had been raped while in police custody. Her health had deteriorated as she confessed, said the Islam. She, however, could not name the police officers involved.
