Torrential rain since early Tuesday kept many Muslims from joining the prayers in Sholakia, known as the largest Eid congregation in Bangladesh.
The heavy monsoon showers brought the entire district to a standstill as people could not come out of their houses due to indiscriminate rains.
Normally, more than 0.3 million Muslims gather in Sholakia Eid congregation every year. But this year, the turnout was nearly more than a thousand.
However, the 189th Eid congregation was held due time at 9:00am. The jamaat was conducted by Moulana Farid Uddin Masud.
In the backdrop of recent militant attacks in Sholakia, Gulshan and other areas in the country, law enforcers have beefed up security before and after the great religious festival of the Muslims in the district.
