Accusing top BNP leaders, including its chairperson Khaleda Zia, of indulging in terror financing and arson attacks during the ongoing blockade, Food Minister Quamrul Islam on Tuesday said they all will be arrested on the charges.
“Top BNP leaders, including Khaleda Zia, are directly funding terrorist activities as their (20-party alliance’s) blockade is on. The government will arrest them for killing people. No one will be spared,” he warned.
Quamrul, also joint general secretary of Awami League city unit, was addressing a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy marking the 10th death anniversary of former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria.
He alleged that BNP and Jamaat are carrying out such destructive activities with a motive to make Bangladesh a failed and militant state.
Observing that a split in BNP is eminent, the minister urged all to remain conscious and pro-liberation BNP leaders to disapprove the BNP chief’s ‘terrorist acts and leadership’.
Ruling out the possibility of talks with any ‘terrorist party like BNP’, he said those calling for a dialogue with BNP cannot be friends of the county’s people.
Awami League publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, former state minister for Home Shamsul Hoque Tuku and organising secretary of Dhaka city AL Shah-e-Alam Murad, among others, spoke on the occasion.
