Awami League’s chief spokesperson brushed off any chance of holding any dialogues on election-related issues
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a greetings-exchange session with the political parties that joined talks at Ganabhaban before the December 30 national election.
During a meeting at the party’s central office in the capital’s Bangabandhu Avenue on Sunday, Quader had said that the prime minister would invite the political parties with whom she had held dialogues before the 11th general election.
“Now that the polls are over, she will invite them to the Ganabhaban to hold talks and exchange views,” he said.
On Monday, however, during an extended meeting of the party’s Dhaka south unit at Bangabandhu Avenue, the Awami League’s chief spokesperson brushed off any chance of holding any dialogue on election-related issues.

“We [Awami League] are not inviting anyone for talks. No dialogue, (only) greetings will be exchanged,” Quader said.
“The prime minister wants to invite the 75 parties, including Jatiya Oikya Front, who joined the pre-polls talks to exchange post-polls greetings,” he said.
Referring to greetings from other countries on the Awami League-led alliance’s election victory, Quader said: “There is nothing to talk about the election. The world has recognized it as a fair one.”
The senior AL leader, who is also the road transport minister, hinted that the process is on to separate the party and the government.
“Problems inside the party should be fixed first if we want to ensure Awami League’s victory in future,” he said.
